Question: Why should we even consider the purchase of property at all?

Answer: A healthy church is a growing church, and we are beginning to see progress in both those areas. As Myler, our construction consultation group, has said, “Fail to plan to grow, and you plan to fail to grow.” Calvary Baptist Church is in a crucial stage of growth, and we need to provide an adequate and balanced space that anticipates both numerical and spiritual growth before people come.

Question: What are we voting on at the Business Meeting on January 28th?

Answer: We are voting for the purchase of 9.36 acres at the corner of Lear Road and Krebs Road, with the intention of a new building being built on the property. At an estimated growth of 7.27% per year, this acreage would allow us to expand for an additional 20 years.

Question: What are the guiding principles for purchasing the property?

Answer:        1)     We will borrow as little as possible.
                        2)     We will pay off our debt as quickly as possible
                        3)     We will not sacrifice ministry for the sake of paying off the debt on our property.

Question: How much money will we need to raise, and how will it be raised?

Answer: The property cost is $515,000.00, with an additional cost of approximately $10,000.00 in assessment fees. This is an excellent price considering the typical price of land in Avon Lake, which approaches $200,000.00 per acre. Raising $500,000.00 would allow us to purchase the land. Raising $750,000.00 would enable us to purchase the land and pay down the gym renovation. And raising $1,000,000.00 would allow us to purchase the land, pay down the gym renovation and proceed with construction plans. A campaign will be conducted in March and April entitled “Claim the Land.” Money can be given as a one-time cash gift and/or through a 36 month giving commitment, giving a gift of assets, or making Calvary a beneficiary in your will.

Question: Why have a giving campaign?

Answer:        1)      To help people grow to spiritual maturity.
                        2)      To raise the funds to purchase property.
                        3)      To build fellowship and unity in our church family.
                        4)      To celebrate together what God has done.

Question: What should people do regarding giving to the campaign if they on a limited or low income?

Answer:  We want to help people that want to give and show them how to give without hurting their present situation. Our hope is that all will prayerfully make an equal sacrifice, though this will not necessarily mean equal gifts.Question: If we vote for the property, but don’t raise enough money, will we be able to purchase the property?

Answer: The elders would have to prayerfully make that decision. We would not want to move forward if we are going to go too deeply in debt. If this were to occur, we would have to approach the congregation on how to further use the money since it was originally designated for the purchase of land.

Question: If and when we build a new church building, our current building and property would be sold. What is the value of our church and property?

Answer: From a tax value our current building and property are worth approximately $900,000.00 to $1,000,000.00. However, the selling price depends on what type of buyer we have since we are in a residentially zoned area. The Avon Lake Public Library has first right of refusal. It would be in our best interest for them to purchase it because they probably would be able to give us what is it worth.
